Talk, Thursday 9th February 2023, 7pm

THE FRIENDS OF ST NICHOLAS CHURCH

On Thursday 9 February, at 7.00pm in the church, Professor Judith Hawley will give a talk entitled ‘”Sacred to the Muses”: Pope, Burlington and the Arcadian Thames’. The idea for this talk was prompted by the fact that the great poet Alexander Pope lived from 1716 to 1719 on Chiswick Lane, close by the Mawson Arms; and Lord Burlington was one of his major patrons.

Judith Hawley is Professor of 18th-century English Literature and Culture at Royal Holloway, University of London, and a Trustee of the Pope’s Grotto Trust.

St Nicholas Church, Church Street, W42PJ. All are welcome. Entrance donation: £12.00; concessions £10.00; free to Friends of St Nicholas Church. Doors open at 6.30pm; refreshments will be available.
