22nd December 2020

Dear Friends

For those of you who have been able to watch our parish nativity play online, its title “We live in unprecedented times” seems after this weekend’s raft of announcements quite precient.

Please be assured that the church takes its responsibilities very seriously and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our worshipping space is as COVID secure as possible.

Our usual Christmas services look very different this year, our Nativity is online and our Crib service, normally so popular on Christmas Eve, was smaller and took place on Sunday at 11.00am. I’m hugely proud of all our young people who took part, they were simply magnificent.

Our Sunday evening carol service – again normally so popular, was also broadcast online. I found it a deeply moving occasion, again my thanks to all those who participated, the music was sublime and the readings quite wonderful. If you haven’t already, try to view it.

Please note that tickets for Midnight Mass and Christmas Day are now sold out. Please don’t turn up if you don’t have a ticket because we cannot admit you.

You do sometimes wonder what else we will endure before this hideous virus is under better control. That of course will only happen when sufficient numbers are vaccinated. So it seems to me the first few months of 2021 will be very similar to 2020. Let’s hope we can enjoy a more relaxed Summer. Until then please take extra care and stay as safe as you possibly can.

From all of us at St Nicholas, we wish you a Happy Christmas, wherever you are and how ever you are celebrating. Let us all pray for a better 2021!

To cheer you up I’ve attached the words to my 12 Day of COVID which I sang for the congregation on Sunday.
