Dear Friends

It has been good to welcome people to two different events at St Nick’s in the past week. Last Wednesday Anne McBride organised another marvellous lunch in the hall for older members of our parish. It had a Wimbledon theme, complete with purple and green tablecloths, mini tennis balls and – of course – a glass of Pimms! These lunches are splendid occasions to get together and share wonderful, home-made food prepared and served by members of the congregation, and they are particularly enjoyed by those who often eat meals at home alone.

On Sunday evening the Friends of St Nicholas invited Chiswick Baroque to sing in a concert in church which was very well attended. We enjoyed a variety of numbers, both sacred and secular, old and new.   The Friends offered their usual warm hospitality by way of wine and canapes, and we were able to celebrate our first concert in church with a working kitchen and flushing loos – brilliant!

Now that we have three priests at St Nick’s our clergy will be expected to offer cover from time to time at other churches to fill in for holidays. To that end, I shall not be at our 10.30 services for the next two Sundays. In case you should be wondering where I am, I shall not be sunning myself on some tropical island but will be helping out at two churches in Chelsea whilst one of their priests is on holiday. I shall miss being at St Nick’s, but it is good for us to lead worship at other churches and to meet our Christian brothers and sisters in other parishes.

With every blessing

Mother Eileen
